To a large extent, weak management and financial performance by agricultural cooperatives has often beendescribed as a result of lack of education and understanding in cooperativesvaluesand principles. In fact, the education and understanding has been part of their performance driver, but not the whole story. The real issue behind the story would be economics. On new paradigm, any agricultural co-ops success or failure depends primarily on how well it performs its economic purpose rather than social purpose. Based on success stories of some countries, agricultural co-ops have to go through their changing the way they perceive and operate them.
